BIRDMEN (PART 3) from ANDRÉS GALEANO on Vimeo.

View of the performance of 26th March 2010, rosalux@Storyhotel*****
curator: Tiny Domingos

Birdmen is a performance essay and a multimedia installation in several parts about the myth of flying.
The performance analyzes poetically how and where birds are represented and what kind of symbols and associations are related to them and with flying.
Birdmen combines written words and actions, showing the collective imaginary of flying and the ancient human desire to be what we are not able to.

BIRDMEN (PART 3)
Birdmen is a performance essay and a multimedia installation in several parts about the myth of flying.
The performance analyzes poetically how and where birds are represented and what kind of symbols and associations are related to them and with flying.
Birdmen combines written words and actions, showing the collective idea of flying and the ancient human desire to be what we are not able to.

Andrés Galeano’s main artistic practice focuses on performance art.
In his pieces, the space, the audience, the objects, the actions, the time and his body are the elements that compose the work. He plays with performance as a social moment and breaks with its conventional structures and rules and provokes the audience directly. He uses the power of the instant to create actions and situations that raise philosophical questions and allow poetical experiences.
His work is usually site-specific and ephemeral. Its documentation is part of the concept as well as a search for new ways and methods to document performances.
For the artist, performance means interdisciplinarity, that is, the possibility to freely mix different art languages within a performance, continuously trying to extend its boundaries and definitions.

Andrés Galeano, born 1980 in Mataró (Spain) studied philosophy at the Universidad of Barcelona and photography at the Freie Fotoschule of Stuttgart as well as Fine Arts at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna and at the Kunsthochschule Weissensee Berlin. He works with drawing, photography, video and performance.
He exhibited his work in Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic and France.
He lives and works in Berlin, where he is currently curating the performance art programme Extension Series at Grim Museum.
