MEnimalism is an experimental drawing workshop with a socially challenged group of immigrant children from multiple cultural backgrounds. The purpose of the workshop is to help the children gain self-awareness and create a more meaningful connection to self, others and the environment. The focus is on self-expression towards self-discovery and empowerment, exploring each student’s own potential. The students follow a series of drawing exercises using graphite and charcoal sticks to understand their grace and power as they leave soft light and hard dark lines on paper. The large format paper (A2/A1) opens a space where the students can get physical, be absorbed in and dive into. In their final presentation, the students illustrate their personal worlds of cheerleading, football, kickboxing, breathing, friendship and magic through the imaginary traces of movement and expressive single line gestures. The end of the workshop is celebrated with a group art exhibition where the children are able to present their works to other students, teachers, parents and guests.
